Hi, my name is Martha Haynes and I am the president of Happy Hedgehog Counseling. I started teaching kindergarten 4k and 5k in 2004. Throughout my teaching I taught either 4k, 5k bilingual, and special education for 11 years. I never imagined myself as the president of anything, but here I am.
I went back to school for my Master’s in marriage and family therapy. My therapy style is a mix of special education and family therapy. Eleven years of teaching have helped me learn a lot about children, behavior, the school setting as well as the school expectations and some of the stressors that kids have a school. Being the youngest child of 6 has helped me learn how children in different roles of the family are treated and act differently. I understand what it is like as a child to have parents go through a divorce.
There is a need for support for parents of young children and parents of children with special needs. As a teacher I saw an increase in challenging behavior at school and at home. My goal is to help parents connect and effectively communicate with their children. Hopefully this will also lead to better behavior in school.
Here is more about Martha on Psychology Today. I am starting the process of credentialing with insurance companies in May. I will post whenever there is an update.
