How can I help my child not get so upset when he or she does not win?
It helps children learn to lose gracefully when you play a lot of short games that they sometimes win and sometimes lose. It can be rock paper scissors, hot and cold or simple card games like go fish. Before you play remind them what we say when we win or lose. ” Good game” or “That was fun, do you want to play again?” Or “maybe next I will win”.
It is important for other people in the house to be good role models on winning or losing. You can roleplay winning or losing poorly with toys. Have the one toy mock the other one ” ha ha I won!” Ask your child how it would feel to hear that.
