Just by looking at the cover you can see that Llama Llama is mad. Why do you think he is so mad at mama? What do you do when you are mad at a grown-ups? My rule is that you cannot hurt people with your words or your body.
Some grown-ups get upset when children show that they are mad by crossing their arms or stomping their feet. They also get upset when children yell. I try to remind parents that children are allowed to have feelings. They are not hurting anyone by crossing their arms. Adults are allowed to get mad, why not children. I also ask what the grown-ups do when they are mad. If they see yelling and inappropriate behavior from adults they will copy it.
What are grown-ups supposed to do when a child is mad? Validate the child’s feelings of anger. Ask if they want help or want some space. Stay calm by demonstrating taking a deep breath, giving yourself a big hug, talk out the anger, “I see that you are angry that you cannot have ice cream before dinner.”
This site has some creative ways to cope with anger. You could pick out your favorite ones and make a list. Add some ideas of your own.
