Book Nook: Feeling sad

Feeling sad is no fun. Sometimes it is a little bit of sadness, like when you don’t get picked to be line leader. Sometimes it is a big sad, like a death in the family.

The most important thing to remember is to FEEL YOUR FEELINGS! Don’t hide them to make others feel more comfortable. Let the sad feelings happen. You can write about them, draw about them, talk to someone, listen to music, hold a pet anything to express how you feel.

Sad is a complicated feeling. It can be mixed with anger, confusion, guilt and many other feelings.

Don’t try to stuff your feelings down. If you feel them now and learn that it is safe to have uncomfortable feelings you grow. You grow in your ability to regulate your emotions, you grow your empathy for others who are sad and you grow in your own emotional awareness.

I think you are ready to take a step toward growth.
